Types of computers

·         Desktop computer

·         Portable computer (laptop/notebook)

1.       Desktop computer

Desktop computer that sits on the table or desk is called desktop computer. These are most commonly known as personal computer. (PC) PC are not designed to be portable computer. These means that they cannot move from one place to another place easily.

2.        Portable computer

Portable computer meant for user who are frequently on the move. These are light-weight mobile computers or notebook computers. They have a single unit having monitor, keyboard, pointer device, or track ball, CPU, memory drive. They operate on battery.

3.       Palmtop computer/ handheld computer

These computers are integrated computer that often use small memory and storage space. Palmtop computers usually do not have a keyboard but rely on touch screen technology for user input. These are very light-weight with reasonable battery life as slightly larger and heavier version of the palmtop computer /handheld computer.

4.       Mainframe computer

Mainframe computer refers to large computer which are very powerful and are used for special applications.

5.       Super computer

Super computer are extremely large and even more powerful computer and are used for weather furcating, national defense etc. they are built using hundreds or thousands of processors.

6.       Wearable computer

The latest trend compute ring is wearable computer. Common computer application (e-mail, accounts, multimedia, calendar, note) are integrated into watches, cellphones, shoes, space and even clothing.
